Good Times...

Well it's 12:30 am and the firemen have just left my house AGAIN. Tyler hasn't been feeling well today and so he went to bed early. He has been waking up and testing every few hours since he went to bed, the last test was only an hour ago and he was just fine. I came upstairs to go to bed and after about 10 minutes I realized his breathing was a little off and so I tried to wake him up to test but he couldn't wake up. I grabbed a meter and tested him and his sugar was 34 (it's supposed to be between 80-150). At this point he has started seizing, I went downstairs and got the glucagon shot (this is basically a shot of sugar solution), I gave him the shot and waited. He usually seizes for a minute to a minute and a half but this time he seized on and off for about 10 minutes, after 5 minutes I called 911. I usually call 911 at the beginning, they show up, do nothing and then leave. So this time I decided to try and wait it out, the problem was that this time his seizure was totally different. His seizure was a lot longer but a lot let severe as far as the intesity of the shaking etc. At least this time he didn't bite his tongue. Oh and the perk of the night? The lead paramedic (you can't tell from the picture) was cute. Tyler and I enjoyed a laugh about this before we hit the sack. Anyways like I said, Never A Dull Moment.

wow brooke...i'm impressed you pulled out the camera on a moment like that! the first picture is funny, because it's like you just wanted to get the fireman, but then felt bad so you got a tiny bit of tyler in there too! :) hope he's feeling better!

There were firemen and paramedics on my landing and stairs and I couldn't get to my room for any good pictures. After the first picture some of them moved so I could get a better picture.

XCute? Maybe... Preachy, arrogant, and a little churlish, but important to my overall health? Definitely!

That's scary. I'm glad Tyler made it through OK.

Can I make a minor correction. Glucagon is not a sugar solution, it's actually a hormone.

I hate getting glucagon shots. They always make me throwup about an hour later. Strong stuff, but lousy treatment. The only good news is that every time I've had it (not for over 6 years now) I'm too out of it to feel that huge needles going in!

Bernard,

I did actually know it was a hormone. It's a hormone that releases the glycogen stores in your liver. I was just simplifing things for the sake of family members. I did link to info about it. Glucagon used to make Tyler throw up but not anymore. It seems to work well with him and it helps us avoid having paramedics around constantly. Thanks for the correction.
